We hosted an end of year party celebrating the end of the semester. The students have done such a good job and have worked so hard this year. They have been showing up to bible studies and always have such sweet spirits. I love them so much. They are always so kind. One night I was having a hard time and the students when they saw me said, “Cindi! Cindi! Cindi!” It was so sweet how excited they were to see me. It almost made me fell emotional. They were so happy to see me and they couldn’t wait to talk to me, it was so kind. That may have been the day I brought them Taco Bell. They were so appreciative! Food goes a long way with students let me tell you.
So before the Christmas party we had a bible study leaders meeting about how to be good hosts, and what makes people feel included. We had no idea how many people were going to show up but we had food and a schedule and games so we felt very confident.
Students started showing up and we greeted everyone. We waited till it seemed like there weren’t more people coming and welcomed everyone, and talked about what Intervarsity is. Then we did two ice breaker games that were so funny. The first one was wrapping the bible study leaders in streamers like a tree and then you had to put on a Santa hat. The first one to be done won. The next game was we had to put a Santa hat sticker as close to Santa’s hat as possible. There was a poster and everyone on that team had to spin around and then walk blindfolded to the poster. People on their team had to shout at them where to go, then the other team was giving the wrong directions. It was great fun but super disorienting. When it was my turn there were so may voices it was so hard to focus and hear my team member’s giving me directions. Then we had food and decorated sugar cookies. We hung out for a while after the party was over and the students helped clean up. It was so fun, what a way to end the year. We won’t have bible studies until next year starting in February.
